Annelies Barth – Church BMS Secretary

We are still in touch with Kathy Russell, who used to work as a Baptist Mission Worker supporting legal work in Mozambique. From there she moved to her home country Australia, where she was working as a lawyer for Aboriginal families. We continue to pray for her every month. Early June 2024 Kathy got married to Rev. Jeremy James, and moved to South Australia, about 1500 miles from Perth (West-Australia), where she used to live.

She is still working for the Aboriginal people, now as a managing lawyer in the policy and advocacy unit of the Aboriginal Legal Rights Movement in South Australia. This job involves doing submissions to government for law and policy change, seeking systemic change for the Aboriginals. The Aboriginal people still don’t have the same access to justice as white Australians and the outcome of a recent referendum didn’t work in their favour. Kathy told us: ‘My prayer is may justice flow like a river for the Aboriginal people of Australia.’
